A program that started from scratch during the 14-15 year with donations from Holy Name Parishioners and the Humble Jumble has grown with community support. Due to grants written by our tech teacher, Karen Smolinski, and the CUES grant writer, Nicole Zicklefoose, the makerspace area is now a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) lab with $25,000 worth of equipment including robotics, classroom sets of circuitry toolsets and architectural design kits, woodworking, sewing and handicrafts. Due to generous grants from Cox Communications, the Simon Foundation, Ritonya Buscher Poehling, Shopko, the Goldenrod Foundation, Paypal (thanks to parent Lee Davis) and private donors, we opened a fully functioning STEM lab in February 2016. At that time, the STEM activities included in the math, science and technology classes in addition to the after-school program. It is also amazing to note that 100% of the cost has come from grant writing or private donations.

NEW for 2016-2017 school year:  Thanks to a grant from COX Communications, Holy Name is adding a video production studio to the curriculum.  A wall in the little gym is painted green to accommodate green screen photography.  The addition of an editing machine, software, cameras, lights and a great microphone, complete the studio.
