Geo Bee

Each year Holy Name participates in the National Geographic Bee contest.  The school contest is held in January.

Chess Competition

Four Holy Name students participated in the St. Patrick’s Elkhorn Chess Championship on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Leo Vaughan and Antonio Martinez competed in the 5th grade beginner division while Daniel Hospodka and Jacob Ramold competed in the 6th grade beginner division. All students played at least five matches. Jacob won his age division group with a record of 4-0-1 (4 wins, 0 losses, 1 tie) and was awarded a 1st place trophy. All other participants received a chess piece keychain. This was Holy Name’s first-ever chess competition.

UNO Heartland Choir Festival

Carson Sawyer was selected to participate in the University of Nebraska Omaha’s Heartland Choir Festival. Seventh and Eighth grade students from Nebraska schools can audition to participate in the choir. In preparation for the Festival, students were expected to learn their choral pieces on their respective voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Carson is a bass and learned five choral pieces to prepare for the event. The esteemed Vijay Singh, from Central Washington University, rehearsed and conducted the choir. Singh is an internationally recognized composer, solo performer, and conductor. A public concert for parents and music lovers was performed by the choir at the conclusion of the day. UNO’s Chamber Choir also performed at the concert.

Nebraska All-State Children's Choir

Kenidy Dunlap and Christopher Stallworth II represented Holy Name at the Nebraska All-State Children’s Choir in Lincoln as part of the 75th Annual Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference. Christopher Mitchell was an alternate to the choir. These students participated in a day long choir event culminating in a concert at the University of Nebraska’s Lied Center with guest conductor, John Jacobsen.
